Grand Canyon

From Sedona, we drove north to the Grand Canyon...and is it ever GRAND! Momma's pictures don't really show how amazing every view is. 

Most National Parks don't allow pets, but I was SO happy to hear that I could go into the park if I stayed on a leash on the rim trails only.

Anyone for a raft ride? 

Momma told us about her mule ride...a long time ago with her friends, Joan, MaryAnn, and Moe.

Our weather has been wonderful...just cool enough that we don't sweat or pant. We have been about a week ahead of the cold fronts that have moved into areas right after we have left! Makes us feel extra lucky to be on our "road trip," heading west!

Last Day in Sedona

We spent our last day in Sedona visiting two National Monuments.

This is called Montezuma Well...even though it was discovered years later that the Apaches never lived in this area. But it was a great place for early people to live....1.5 million gallons of water come into the well every day!

 Momma had visited Jerome, an historic copper mining town, in the '70's...and it hasn't changed much since then. But she and dad had a great "haunted hamburger!" She still has a copper bracelet she bought here.

 We had to drive up very steep roads to reach Jerome, located on Cleopatra Hill, with an elevation of 5,200 feet!

At 5 pm momma and dad went to a Taize service in the Chapel of the Holy Cross. I wish I could have gone to see this church built right into the rocks.

 The Stations of the Cross, like the entire chapel, were very simple.

  Prayer candles were brought up during the service.
