The western section of the Historic Apache Trail is the most traveled section. From Apache Junction to Tortilla Flat is only about 23 miles with many interesting sites.
Our first stop was the Apache Trail Museum which had walking trails, with those nasty, spiky plants that I want to stay away from.
You can't read the names of these snakes...but I wanted to show you how many rattlesnakes live in Arizona. The one in the bottom right corner is the one we have in Tobermory...a Massasauga Rattlesnake which can grow to about 22 inches....not like the Diamondback which can reach 80 inches!
We were glad that the only rattlesnake we have seen is this one...at least so far!
My parents thought this was interesting. The pre-historic people in this area believed that their creator caused a big flood to punish people who were bad.
I felt bad for all the animals that were stuffed in this museum. This mountain lion looks skinny, like me! I hope I'm never stuffed!
On the museum grounds were buildings that were used by the Apache Land Movie Studio to make many western movies. This church was used in Charro, starring someone by the name of Elvis.
There were hundreds of pictures of all the actors and actresses who came to this area of Arizona to make movies. Maybe you have heard of Ronald Reagan, Clint Eastwood, and Burt Lancaster.
Before movies, this part of Arizona was a big mining area.
Cowboy boots were hanging from the ceiling in the Saloon...most said RIP and someone's name.
There weren't any horses at the hitching post....just me.
Canyon Lake was a very pretty area. I sure wished I could go swimming.
Many tourists take a ride on The Dolly Steamboat.
Momma and dad had a great lunch at the Tortilla Flat Restaurant. The walls are papered in dollar bills, two or three thick! This town has a population of 6. It used to be a stagecoach stop.
The barstools were very western!
The scenery was just great...and these roads were paved! I will be very sad to leave The Ranch, but we are heading south to Green Valley, south of Tucson. The next time I write it will be from a normal house.

Thanks for sending the link to your Blog! I don't want to miss a single entry. It looks like you are both turning into real "Cowboys"!! And now you've been to a town with fewer citizens that Tobermory!! :0) Stay safe on your next journey.
